New York, USA – Today UNITAR and AB InBev unveiled a road safety mural donated to New York. The artwork, curated by Street Art for Mankind (SAM) and created by street artist Dragon76, supports the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021-2030), conveys road safety messages and considers a future in which roads are safer places for drivers. and pedestrians. The fresco was made possible thanks to the support of the AB InBev Foundation. The wall was donated by the Chhabra family and production was facilitated by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and the New York City Mayor’s Office.

The 5,200 square foot mural aims to raise awareness of the importance of road safety by depicting a future in which roads are safer places for drivers and pedestrians. Located steps away from the United Nations Headquarters in New York, at the corner of Tunnel Exit Street and 39th Street in Midtown New York. “Road Safety” is a mural that depicts a future in which roads are safer places for drivers and pedestrians. The mural hopes to create a positive norm and promote choices where safe driving is cool. The mural comes to life in augmented reality with the free “Behind the Wall” mobile app that will raise awareness of road safety and empower all viewers to take action.

This special event was preceded by the renewal of the partnership between UNITAR and AB InBev to continue improving road safety. The two institutions also agreed to develop initiatives focusing on women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship; and promote sustainable water management practices.

Over the past four years of collaboration, this public-private partnership has provided training, technical assistance, capacity building and quality learning resources and tools, to help civil society, local communities, authorities governments, businesses and other stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Since its launch in 2018, the UNITAR – AB InBev Management Practices for Safer Roads toolkit has reached a total of 30,000 beneficiaries in 122 countries.

UNITAR and AB InBev will continue to work together to achieve global goals related to road safety, in addition to new initiatives that will use technology to empower women entrepreneurs, improve water management and help change behaviors towards responsible consumption. Support for women entrepreneurs includes mentoring, international exchange of experience and knowledge, training, financial resources and digital solutions. Furthermore, this partnership will contribute to the Decade of Action for Water (2018-2028) by strengthening local capacities and developing practical tools to face and tackle water-related challenges.

The partnership signing ceremony took place at the United Nations Headquarters and was followed by the unveiling of a road safety mural donated to New York City.
