ST. CLOUD — Two major road construction projects in Saint-Cloud that were due to be completed this summer have been pushed back to 2023.
Cooper Avenue South and Wilson Avenue will not be completed this year due to material supply issues.
St. Cloud’s Engineering Department says construction on Cooper Avenue will begin in the spring while construction on Wilson Avenue will begin in June 2023.
Supply issues are affecting the various pipes and underground products used in the rebuilding of utilities. This does not affect materials like gravel fill and bitumen which are produced locally. Director of Public Services at Saint-Cloud Tracy Hodel says some of the products, like large water mains, are delayed up to 32 weeks.
Cooper Avenue will benefit from a complete reconstruction and road widening. The $6 million project will include new water pipes, sidewalks, drainage improvements and bike lanes. The project will extend from University Drive South to Traverse Road.
Wilson Avenue will be rebuilt between Highway 23 and 1st Street Northeast. This $4.2 million project also includes new curbs and gutters, sidewalks, storm sewer and sanitary sewer.
Hodel says that due to the delay of these two projects, additional resurfacing projects originally planned for 2023 will take place this summer. The joint project between St. Cloud and Waite Park to resurface Waite Avenue will also be completed this season.
