June 19-21 conference will focus on speed management, rural road safety and vulnerable road users

Sudbury hosts the 2022 Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) Conference from June 19 to 21, 2022.

Each year, CARSP organizes this important conference in a Canadian city that brings together road safety professionals from various disciplines, whose sole objective is to make roads and streets safer across Canada.

This year, we are very pleased to partner with the City of Greater Sudbury. Sudbury is a growing northern city and takes road safety very seriously.

Sudbury has been proactive in its approach to road safety with the implementation of various road safety design and active travel projects, such as roundabouts and protected bike lanes, which have made their roads and streets safer for residents of this beautiful northern Ontario city.

The theme of the conference is “Collaborating on the United Nations (UN) Decade of Action for Road Safety”.

The period 2021-2030 marks the second decade of action by the World Health Organization and United Nations road safety collaboration. The United Nations General Assembly has set the ambitious goal of preventing at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries worldwide by 2030. The Global Plan stresses the importance of a holistic approach road safety and calls for the continued implementation of the Safe Systems approach, leveraging the co-benefits of other Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring shared responsibility among all actors to achieve this goal.

Using the lens of the Decade of Action, the 2022 CPRSP Conference aims to build on the momentum of the successes of the past decade, while highlighting priority areas for the future.

The conference will also address priority road safety issues such as speed management, rural road safety, vulnerable road users (including active transportation), impaired driving and safety culture. road. “Road safety culture is the belief system shared by a group of people, which influences the behaviors of road users and the actions of stakeholders that have an impact on road safety”. Woven throughout our conference, as always, is the goal of achieving Vision Zero by applying the safe system approach.

This year, the conference will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual) that will allow for participation from around the world and across Canada. The program will also include many experts from Canada and around the world and as usual the CARSP conference is an opportunity for young professionals to present cutting-edge road safety research.

The conference will take place at the Holiday Inn Conference Center and registration information and sponsorship opportunities can be found at carsp.ca.
