The Safe Roads Alliance today announced the first annual Global Road Safety Week relay to raise road safety awareness and encourage the public, businesses, advocates, state agencies and survivors to join the movement. for safer roads. The relay begins May 15, 2022, and proceeds from the event will help fund programs like Children speak out for road safety, Focus on road safety, and the America Walks Community Change Grant Program, which any Commonwealth municipality can apply for. The Interstate Challenge will kick off in Lenox, Massachusetts on May 15, 2022 and wrap up a week later in Boston. The 138-mile course will be divided into three to six-mile stages, where participants can walk, run, bike or ride their challenge stage at their own pace. People can choose to participate in one or more of the 33 different stages of the relay. With the exception of the first and the last stage, participants can complete their stage at any time during Global Road Safety Week. There is no limit to the number of participants per round.

The goal is to raise $500 for each leg of the relay. Beyond Safe Road Alliance Funding Children speak out for road safety and Focus on road safety programs, 50% of proceeds will go to the America Walks Community Change Grant Program. This program is open to all MA municipalities and focuses on micro-grants that fund traffic calming measures. Examples include the painting of crosswalks, neighborhood lanes, city planning tactics, speed bumps and crosswalk signs. Towns and villages can also invest in larger projects.
