ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) — A multi-phase road construction project in Elizabethtown is once again underway.

The nearly $14 million project, known as the 31-W Rehab Project, restarted Monday night.

This new phase runs along the North Dixie Freeway from Ring Road south to the Ring Road, which is approximately three-quarters of a mile.

This is the second phase of three for the high traffic area which will focus on median works, as well as increasing driver and pedestrian safety.

For much of 2021, construction has been a headache for drivers. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says drivers won’t have to worry about a stop during the day.

“Contractors are limited to lane closures only at night. They can work during the day, but again they cannot close these two lanes which must remain open all day,” spokesperson Chris Jessie said. from KYTC District 4.

In late 2021, crews halted construction ahead of the winter months to avoid snow and ice issues.

Construction of the second phase is expected to be completed by mid-summer. The third phase, which will go through the hospital district, will begin in the fall.
