Just under a year after production began, Bugatti announced that all 40 of its £ 4.4million Divo hypercar had been produced, with the last car delivered to a customer in Europe. Although the model shares its chassis and powertrain with the Chiron, an all-new bodywork and reworked chassis have, according to Bugatti, been designed to make the Divo a more maneuverable hypercar.

Buyers had almost complete carte blanche when it comes to customization, ranging from bespoke paint to completely new leather and custom components inside and out – some options have taken months or even years to develop. The final car (pictured) is finished in ‘EB 110 LM Blue’ with blue tinted carbon fiber elements and gold metallic wheels. Anne Beynat, Sales Coordinator at Bugatti, said: “Customers often have their own ideas, such as family crests, national flags, their own logos or special color combinations. We then try to implement the ideas in technical terms.

One glance at the Divo and it’s obvious that it could only have been a modern Bugatti. However, compared to the sleek and sophisticated Chiron, the Divo takes a more menacing approach, with an all-new carbon fiber bodywork studded with ornate aero details.

The new aesthetic begins with the “Bugatti line”. On the Chiron, the iconic C-shaped line contains the cabin in its uninterrupted sweep. On the Divo, however, Bugatti raised this line halfway up the door, giving Bugatti designers the ability to incorporate more complex aerodynamic contours around the car.

Aggressive aerodynamics are more prominent up front, dominated by a wider horseshoe grille. The lower, more stealthy nose might also initially resemble its missing headlights, but they now reside in a tiny 35mm of shadow space under the new daytime running lights, which run all the way up to the front fenders. At the end points of the light are new louvers of the type 911 GT3 RS.

Moving up and above the cabin, the roof now incorporates a wide but shallow NACA duct, divided by a blue colored central joint that is reminiscent of the weld bead that has defined many historic Bugatti models, such as the Type 57S Atlantic. The exposed carbon fiber has been finished with a blue tint in the resin, but owners will be able to specify their own color scheme.

The rear design takes a similar approach to that of the Chiron by having a tail open enough to release the masses of heat produced by the powertrain. The biggest design difference is the replacement of the Chiron’s distinctive full-width light bar (milled from a single giant piece of aluminum, no less) with a new 3D printed mesh in which the taillights “ bleed ”. The effect is no different from that of the rear of the Aston Martin Vulcan. The Divo’s rear aero is also less subtle than that of the Chiron, as the wing no longer fully retracts into the rear body. As a result, the new stacked wing is 23% wider, contributing to the additional 90kg of downforce produced by the Divo. The overall weight has been reduced by 35kg compared to the Chiron, although at 1995kg you still wouldn’t qualify the Divo as light weight.

Underneath the new carbon fiber skin is the same 7993cc four-turbocharged W16 engine, connected to a Ricardo dual-clutch automatic gearbox powering all four wheels. Peak horsepower is rated at 1,479 hp at 6,700 rpm, with 1,180 lb-ft of torque available over a surprisingly wide power range of 2,000 to 6,000 rpm. Bugatti quotes a 0-62mph time of 2.4 seconds, but top speed is limited to 236mph – because the Divo does not have the ‘Top Speed’ mode which can increase the speed limiter by 25 additional mph on the Chiron.

Inside, much of the interior of the Chiron is preserved. The sample image here shows an asymmetrical color scheme of Alcantara light blue and black. There is a wider use of satin carbon fiber, as well as dark anodizing on the generally bright aluminum highlights of the interior around the steering wheel and dashboard.

Although many Divos will undoubtedly live their lives in private collections, all 40 vehicles are approved for road use. Each reduced their respective owner to around € 5million (around £ 4.4million).
