Gurugram: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will gradually begin work to improve road safety measures in the district.

“In the first phase, road safety measures would be launched at 40 major road junctions in the city. As part of it, road improvement works such as the middle beacon, signage, filling potholes, among others, will be undertaken, said a GDMA official. .

“In addition, the work to install smart traffic lights in the city will begin soon,” the GMDA official said, adding that the golf course extension road was now pothole-free.

Apart from that, Gurugram deputy commissioner Yash Garg also called on all road construction agencies to speed up road-related works before winter.

Bearing in mind the fog during the winter season, Garg instructed all agencies to properly fabricate speed bumps, mark them, and install reflective stripes on all transport vehicles.

He also ordered the installation of reflective strips on the cement jersey barriers on the roads so that these barriers are easily visible to drivers in fog.

Apart from this, to curb traffic accidents due to fog and to ensure the highway code in Gurugram, the traffic police will maintain strict surveillance.

Deputy Police Commissioner (ACP), Traffic Akhil Kumar said: “As of January 2021, 28,683 challans have been issued for those driving in the wrong direction, while 7,559 challans for those driving in the wrong lane. Likewise, 684 challans were issued for speeding, 5,447 for driving without a seat belt, 12,674 for driving two-wheelers without a helmet, 8,741 for vehicles without a high-security license plate “.

Violators and the general public will receive road safety brochures and badges during the statewide campaign to be held Nov. 14, according to an official statement.
