Construction of the 51.8-kilometer Grand Zambi-Kribi road, which is the third link in the Yaoundé-Kribi corridor in Cameroon, is about 84% complete.

This is according to a source in the central African country Ministry of Public Works (MINTP), which is responsible for the technical control and management of the construction of infrastructure and public buildings as well as the maintenance and protection of the national road heritage.

The Grand Zambi-Kribi road project is undertaken by the Chinese company CGCOC Group Cie., Ltd formerly known as CGC Overseas Construction Group Co., Ltd.

Job overview

According to testimonies, the wearing course has already been laid over a distance of 42 km. 116 airlocks have also been built and put into service with regard to the hydraulic works, and the work to protect the scuops is almost completed.

The sanitation works are also progressing well and as for the installation of the curbs, 6.1 km are covered over 9.56 km. Regarding the construction of the bridges on the Grand Zambi-Kribi road, on the other hand, the source indicated that all the decks have been sunk and all the bridges have been put into service.

MINTP expects the project to be fully completed later this year.

Significance of the Grand Zambi-Kribi road project

The updating of this road infrastructure will not only make it possible to build a viable road link, facilitating the accessibility of deep water port of Kribi but also contribute to improving the competitiveness of products on internal and external markets by significantly reducing the overall costs of transporting traffic from South Cameroon and neighboring countries.

The project will also facilitate the opening up of production areas within the route, which in turn will create jobs and thus improve the standard of living of the inhabitants.
